Construction of a temporary exterior entrance at the Giraffe building is scheduled to begin Thursday, Nov. 18. This work is expected to take about a week to install and we will work around people entering and leaving the building to minimize any disruption.

This temporary entrance will be in place for the duration of our first phase of construction and is designed to keep everyone, particularly patients, safer as work on the future construction site may stir up dust, pollen or debris. The entrance will incorporate fans which will blow any dust or pollen off people as they walk through, and keep any debris from entering the hospital.

Children’s Infection Prevention staff have worked together to develop the following safety measures:

  •  Sealing windows and doors in patient care areas facing the construction site
  • Temporarily closing access to outdoor patios facing the construction site
  • Adding fans on the roof of the Giraffe Building to prevent dust and pollen from getting into our air system
  • Taking weekly air samples to check air quality inside the hospital
