Starting next week, the Seattle Children’s Grounds Department will begin removing most of the plants between the Forest Building and 40th Avenue NE, directly adjacent to the Emergency Department drive, as construction begins to create a new kitchen on Forest level L1.
Two trees will also be removed in the next few weeks and replanted by the bike share bicycles near Sand Point Way NE. Some landscaping will remain along the public sidewalk near the construction area.
Exterior work will take place Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Trucks and other construction equipment will access the work areas on Forest levels L1 and 2 for about a year. Flaggers will be in place during work hours to help guide traffic as dump trucks and other equipment exit west onto NE 45th Street.
The larger and better-equipped kitchen will enable Children’s Nutrition Services staff to prepare meals to order using fresh ingredients and improve our services for babies with a new formula/human milk room.
