Seattle Children’s is a busy place, serving patients and families from a very large geographic region: Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. In this “Seattle Children’s By the Numbers” blog post series, we’ll share some of the statistics that shed light on why we need to expand and grow.

The numbers below are from Fiscal Year 2011 (Oct. 1 through Sept. 30):

Hospital Statistics:

• Annual Patient Visits: 323,292

• Outpatient Clinic Visits: 260,260 (of these, 171,059 were at the hospital and 89,201 were at our offsite clinics)

• Emergency Room Visits: 36,200

• Admissions to the Hospital: 14,118

• Short-stay Visits: 12,714

 

Patient Statistics:

• Inpatient Days: 75,412

• Average Length of Stay (days): 4.94 

• Total Number of Licensed Beds: 254 

• Total Number of Surgeries: 15,004 (of these, 9,388 were outpatient and 5,616 required an inpatient stay)

 

Where Patients Came From:

• Seattle: 16%

• Other King County: 30%

• Other Washington locations: 48%

• Alaska, Montana, Idaho: 4%

• Outside Alaska, Montana, Idaho: 2%
