Greetings, Waldo fans! If you’re like me, you hate to go inside when it’s sunny outside, but my friend Todd Johnson made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. Todd is one of the people helping Children’s construct the new building that will open next year – Building Hope. Todd leads tours of the building and he asked me if I’d like to go on one. Of course I said yes!
Todd gave me a white hard hat and bright orange safety vest like the workers wear. Awesome! We started at the bottom of the building and worked our way up – and up and up and up. Thank goodness the elevators are running. Do you know how many levels Building Hope has? Keep reading my blog and you‘ll find out.
The hospital’s emergency department will be on level one. That’s where kids will come when they need help right away. The next four levels will be empty when the building opens. Why? Because Children’s is saving room to help more kids in the future.
Level six is for intensive care. Kids who are super sick will come here for special treatment. Level seven and level eight – the top two levels – are for kids with cancer. Level eight – the very top – will be just for teen-agers. Todd told me Children’s plans to build a roof-top garden someday where people can relax and enjoy the view. What do you think you can see from the roof of Building Hope?
The last thing I want to tell you about is the sky bridges — long hallways in the air that will connect Building Hope to the rest of the hospital. There are five sky bridges to make it easy for people to go back and forth to important places like the pharmacy, library and Waldo’s favorite – the cafeteria. Yum!
Todd said he would give me another tour after more work is done. I can’t wait – and I promise to blog about that, too. So long!
