Our Inside the Walls series continues with a look outside the walls of Building Hope, where we’re working to make it as convenient as possible for families, visitors and others to come and go – starting with adding a new elevator. The elevator will carry people one level from the building’s new inpatient parking area to the existing Giraffe entrance – which serves as the front door to the entire hospital. After Building Hope opens, we will remove the temporary vestibule and make some needed improvements to flow at that entrance.
Vehicles bound for Building Hope will enter the hospital campus just as they do now by turning off Sand Point Way onto Penny Drive. After turning again onto Helen Lane, a new road will lead them to the inpatient parking area. A new employee shuttle stop will include a covered drop-off/waiting area and a Starbucks at the employee entrance to the new building.
For patients who need to be airlifted to Children’s, we will move the helistop at the time of the Emergency Department (ED) move. Helicopters will land in the southwest corner of the new parking area, where a raised open walkway will provide easy access to the ED. We’re also building a parking lot for families in front of the ED entrance, as well as an area for ambulances near the loading dock drive.
