Beginning Monday, March 4, the sidewalk on the north side of Stewart Street from Boren Avenue to Terry Avenue will be closed to pedestrian access to construct new sidewalks, planters and driveways; the closure is expected to last through April 15. The parking lane adjacent to the sidewalk will also have intermittent closures to support access to the work. Throughout the construction activities pedestrians will be re-routed to the sidewalk on the south side of Stewart Street. Please follow all street and sidewalk closed signs and pedestrian diversions as they are in place for your safety during these activities.
Pavement Striping at Hospital Campus, March 9
On Saturday, March 9, crews are scheduled to paint new pavement striping along portions of Penny Drive and Helen Lane at the hospital campus. The work will be performed in three phases throughout the day and will temporarily close some crosswalks on those two streets at various times. The parking stalls on the east side of Helen Lane will be closed all day. Both Penny Drive and Helen Lane will remain open during the striping work; flaggers will assist with traffic control.
Crews will begin preparation work at 8 a.m. Striping will begin at 9 a.m. and is expected to last until 5 p.m. Minor levels of noise will be generated, and the paint will produce some odor.

From March 4 to March 10, construction crews are scheduled to perform the following activities:
- Drill piles
- Excavation
- Install water treatment pipes
- Install “lagging” to prevent cave-ins during earthwork
- Install tie backs/anchors for retaining walls
- Form, pour and strip concrete; install rebar
- Patch asphalt
- Internal activities: fire pump replacement work (including demolition and removal of existing pump and slab); begin Forest service elevator ceiling demolition (install scaffolding, temporary lights and alarms, infection prevention barriers, fire sprinklers and temp power); install scaffolding and infection prevention barriers at Forest Stairwell 1; install pipes, firestops and seismic restraints for emergency oxygen system; core penetrations
Construction noise will be generated throughout the week. The noisiest work will be drilling for the piles and installing tie backs/anchors, both of which will take place all week. The asphalt patching is scheduled for Monday, March 4 and will produce minor odors.
Expect heavy truck traffic all week as excavated soil is hauled away from the site. Construction activity is weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.
All work will take place within standard construction hours: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, except that certain activities inside Forest A associated with replacing the fire pump will occur on Sunday, March 10.

Vegetation Pruning and Removal Along 45th Avenue on March 6
On Wednesday, March 6, Bartlett Tree Experts will prune and remove some dying arborvitaes along 45th Avenue NE. Chainsaws and chippers will be used, which will generate noise. The work will begin at 9 a.m. and is expected to last until 3 p.m.

Modular Trailer to Be Delivered via Penny Drive on Saturday, March 2
In advance of an upcoming Facilities Planning, Design and Construction project to remodel the Mountain 5 Pharmacy, a new modular trailer will be installed on the north side of Mountain 6. The trailer will serve as a temporary work location for approximately 20 Pharmacy support staff members until Building Care opens (2022).
In the morning on Saturday, March 2, a flatbed truck will deliver the trailer to the site and a crane will be used to lift the trailer into place. Traffic control will be provided along Penny Drive during this work; please drive with caution through the area. Work should be completed around noon on Saturday.

Tree Pruning at Hospital on Feb. 15
The recent snow storm damaged some vegetation at Seattle Children’s hospital campus. On Friday, Feb. 15, Bartlett Tree Experts is scheduled to prune damaged trees along the perimeter of Children’s property at the following locations:
- On 45th Avenue NE near the intersection with NE 45th Street
- On NE 45th Street near the Metro bus turnaround exit
The crew will use chainsaws and chippers, which will generate noise. The pruning will begin at 9 a.m., though the crew may arrive earlier to set up equipment.
