Upcoming Building Care Construction Activities: May 4 to May 10

Building Care construction is underway. There will be ongoing construction activity at the hospital campus until the building opens in spring 2022. Seattle Children’s will publish a weekly post on this Construction Blog that outlines the work expected to occur the following week. We will also post to this blog whenever a construction activity will be especially impactful to neighbors.

From May 4 to May 10, construction crews are scheduled to perform the following activities:

  • Erect structural and support steel
  • Install decking
  • Install waterproofing
  • Pour concrete for walls, shafts, slabs, decks and stairs
  • Paint
  • Base framing for connection to River
  • Install anchors for windows
  • Set and weld exterior walls
  • Set up lift system
  • Install glass
  • Set stairs
  • Install elevator machines and equipment
  • Install mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment
  • Build out electrical, mechanical and pneumatic tube blower rooms
  • Install drywall
  • Load in and set air handling units
  • Install fire sprinkler systems
  • Install flooring
  • Demolition for connection points to Forest A
  • Interior activities: install mechanical, electrical, plumbing and drywall in River B patient family lounge; install infection prevention barriers and conduct demolition on lower level 1 of Forest A for building connections

Construction noise will be generated throughout the week. The demolition activities will be the loudest. Expect heavy truck traffic, primarily for concrete and steel delivery. Construction activity is weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.

All work will take place within standard construction hours: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Stormwater Pipe Repair and Tree Removal, April 21 to April 23

From Tuesday, April 21 to Thursday, April 23, a construction crew will repair a broken stormwater pipe at the north end of the hospital campus, near NE 50th Street. This work will require the removal of some trees. Noise from excavators, chainsaws and wood chippers will be generated between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on those days. Please contact Meghan Fuller, manager of Grounds Maintenance, at 206-307-6687 if you have questions.

Street Parking Near the Hospital Campus

During the COVID-19 response, Seattle Children’s has been working hard to ensure our clinical staff can get to the hospital to care for patients. With cuts to public transit, a significant reduction in our shuttle service, and social distancing requirements — many more staff members are now driving alone. At the end of March, the City of Seattle implemented a temporary suspension of employee parking restrictions near the hospital campus and has authorized employee parking curbside on designated streets adjacent to the hospital, see map for locations. These measures will ensure essential health care workers can focus on delivering care to those that need it most, and not worry about where to park when traveling to the hospital for their shift.

We continue to encourage employees to use our onsite parking lots first before parking on the designated streets. Signs have been installed to mark where hospital employees are allowed to park. When parking permits are issued by our Transportation Department they will be managed in compliance with the City’s requirements.

Neighbors can call Seattle Children’s Security at 206-987-2030 for parking related issues or questions. For other questions, please call 206-987-8000 or email [email protected].

Building Care Construction Site Closure Extended

The temporary closure of the Building Care construction site has been extended in accordance with the Governor’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” emergency order. Limited staff will be onsite to ensure the job site remains secure during this time.
