Upcoming Building Care Construction Activities: June 14 to June 20

There will be ongoing construction activity for Building Care at the hospital campus until the building opens in spring 2022. Seattle Children’s will publish a weekly post on this Construction Blog that outlines the work expected to occur the following week. We will also post to this blog whenever a construction activity will be especially impactful to neighbors.

From June 14 to June 20, construction crews are scheduled to perform the following activities:

  • Build out interior spaces
  • Paint
  • Waterproofing
  • Install and trim mechanical and electrical wiring and plumbing equipment
  • Install ceilings
  • Install flooring
  • Excavation
  • Pour concrete walkways and stairs
  • Grading
  • Restore rain garden
  • Install soil and mulch
  • Install irrigation
  • Building connection work:
    • Install utility wiring and brackets on level 3 of River C
    • Set up infection prevention barriers and demolition on level 7 of River C
    • Paint and install corner guards on level 1 of Forest A

Construction noise will be generated throughout the week. The mulch installation will generate some odors. Expect heavy truck traffic. Construction activity is weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.

All work will take place within standard construction hours: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

  • Demolish temporary duct bank and pad

  • Install soil
  • Install underground oxygen line
  • Building connection work:
    • Install walls and utility wiring on level 3 of River C
    • Set up infection prevention barriers, demolition, paint, and install signage on level 7 of River C
    • Install glass, install doors, trim utility wiring, and install signage on level 1 of Forest A

  • Form and pour concrete stairs and walkways
  • Demolish asphalt and concrete
  • Excavation
  • Building connection work:
    • Core drilling and demolish walls, ceilings, and plumbing on level 3 of River C
    • Set up infection prevention barriers, demolish elevator front, and paint on level 7 of River C
    • Install flooring, windows, and siding on level 1 of Forest A

Construction noise will be generated throughout the week. The demolishing of asphalt and concrete will generate the most noise. Expect heavy truck traffic. Construction activity is weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.

All work will take place within standard construction hours: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

  • Saw cut concrete and asphalt
  • Building connection work:
    • Set up infection prevention barriers and demolish walls, ceilings, and plumbing on level 3 of River C
    • Paint and install flooring, windows, and siding on level 1 of Forest A

  • Excavation
  • Install oxygen line (near Emergency Department entrance)
  • Grading
  • Saw cut concrete and asphalt
  • Building connection work:
    • Demolish walls, floors, and ceilings; install utility wiring, windows, and siding on level 1 of Forest A

Tree Work at Hospital Campus, April 15

On Thursday, April 15, Bartlett Tree Experts will prune and remove hazardous trees between the Ocean parking garage and 45th Avenue NE. This work will occur between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. The crew will use chainsaws and chippers, which will generate noise. We do not anticipate any transportation or parking impacts on 45th Avenue. The tree work is preventative landscaping maintenance and not related to any construction activity at the hospital campus.

There will be ongoing construction activity for Building Care at the hospital campus until the building opens in spring 2022. From April 12 to April 18, construction crews are scheduled to perform the following activities:

  • Special note: On April 9, we will begin the first phase of reconfiguring the Emergency Department (ED) drop-off and drive aisle. The ED vehicular entrance will remain in the same location for now, but ED vehicles will no longer exit onto 40th Avenue NE; instead, they will be routed north through the hospital campus.
  • Build out interior spaces
  • Paint
  • Install metal sheeting and panels
  • Install and trim mechanical and electrical wiring and plumbing equipment
  • Install drywall
  • Install ceilings
  • Install flooring
  • Install roofing
  • Pressure washing
  • Form and pour concrete slabs, stairs, and walls
  • Demolish asphalt, concrete, lights, and signage at ED drop-off area
  • Install irrigation
  • Building connection work:
    • Paint; install doors and signage; and cleaning on level 3 of River C
    • Paint, install signage, move infection prevention barrier, and cleaning on level 7 of River C
    • Install seismic joint and fire proofing on level 1 of Forest A

    • Demolish walls, floors and ceilings; trim utility wiring; and install seismic joint, sheeting, and fireproofing on level 1 of Forest A
