Upcoming Building Care Construction Activities: Dec. 21 to Dec. 27

Building Care construction is underway. There will be ongoing construction activity at the hospital campus until the building opens in spring 2022. Seattle Children’s will publish a weekly post on this Construction Blog that outlines the work expected to occur the following week. We will also post to this blog whenever a construction activity will be especially impactful to neighbors.

From Dec. 21 to Dec. 27, construction crews are scheduled to perform the following activities:

  • Framing
  • Paint
  • Install roofing
  • Install windows
  • Install metal sheeting and panels
  • Install mechanical and electrical wiring and plumbing equipment
  • Install drywall
  • Install siding
  • Install elevator equipment
  • Install ceilings
  • Build out electrical, mechanical, and telecommunication rooms
  • Install flooring
  • Build out interior spaces
  • Install sprinkler system
  • Demolish temporary electrical switchboard
  • Building connection work:
    • Framing and install utility wiring, drywall, and sprinklers on level 3 of River C
    • Paint and relocate infection prevention barriers on level 4 of River C
    • Install signage and relocate infection prevention barriers on level 5 of River C
    • Cleaning on level 6 of River C
    • Install expansion joint cover plates on level 7 of River C
    • Paint, trim utility wiring, and patch flooring on level 1 of Forest A
    • Paint and remove infection prevention barriers on level 3 of Forest A
    • Install expansion joint covers and flooring, and remove infection prevention barriers on level 9 of Forest A

Construction noise will be generated throughout the week. Expect heavy truck traffic. Construction activity is weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.

All work will take place within standard construction hours: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. The construction site will be closed on Dec. 25.

Construction noise will be generated throughout the week. Internally, the loudest activity will be the demolition and saw cutting on River C levels 6 and 7. Expect heavy truck traffic, primarily for concrete and material deliveries. Construction activity is weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.

All work will take place within standard construction hours: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Tree Work at Hospital Campus, Sept. 14 to Sept. 18

Tree Work at Hospital Campus, Sept. 14 to Sept. 18

Bartlett Tree Experts is scheduled to perform tree work at the Seattle Children’s hospital campus from Monday, Sept. 14, to Friday, Sept. 18. The work includes removing trees that are dying or hazardous, pruning healthy trees to remove dead or low branches, and removing branches leaning on structures.

Activities will take place throughout the hospital campus, including along the perimeters. Bucket trucks will temporarily park on the south side of NE 50th Street, the west side of 45th Avenue NE, and the north side of NE 45th Street. We do not expect any traffic impacts; the sidewalks, however, will be closed in those areas while work is underway.

Crews will use chainsaws and chippers, which will generate noise, each day from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We expect this work will have minimal impact on the perimeter tree buffer.

Tree Removal at Hospital Campus, July 8

On Wednesday, July 8, Bartlett Tree Experts will remove some dead and dying trees from around the perimeter of Seattle Children’s hospital campus. The work will occur along the south side of NE 47th Street, the west side of 45th Avenue NE, and the north side of NE 45th Street. Crews will use chainsaws and chippers, which will generate noise. We do not expect any traffic impacts. This work will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We will replant to fill any visible holes in the fall.

Stormwater Pipe Repair and Tree Removal, April 21 to April 23

From Tuesday, April 21 to Thursday, April 23, a construction crew will repair a broken stormwater pipe at the north end of the hospital campus, near NE 50th Street. This work will require the removal of some trees. Noise from excavators, chainsaws and wood chippers will be generated between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on those days. Air Handler Work at Hospital, Dec. 11 to Dec. 14

From Dec. 11 to Dec. 14, construction crews will perform work at the hospital associated with the ongoing project to replace the air handling unit. This work will generate noise, but impacts to surrounding neighbors are expected to be minimal. Crews will use a mobile crane on Friday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 14 to remove existing equipment from the roof and to place new equipment; the crane will be located on the north side of the building near the Mountain loading dock. The crane will be delivered to the site on Friday, Dec. 13 and will be removed on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Note: This work will occur both day and night from Dec. 11 to Dec. 14. Construction lights will be used at night; those lights will be shielded and are not expected to interfere with neighboring properties. Nighttime construction noise will be minimal.

  • Install mechanical, electrical and plumbing
  • Demolish concrete walkways within site
  • Excavation
  • Activities on River C, level 7: construct walls
  • Internal activities: install new pipe and wiring pathways on Forest A, level 1

Construction noise will be generated throughout the week. The loudest activity will be the demolition of concrete walkways within the site. Expect heavy truck traffic, primarily from concrete trucks. Construction activity is weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.
