SDOT Road Work on Sand Point Way NE Begins Monday, Feb. 8

Beginning Monday, Feb. 8, Sand Point Way NE will close to through traffic between NE 70th St. and NE 95th St. while Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) repairs a failing retaining wall in the 8500 block. Please note that this project is a SDOT project, and while it is not associated with Seattle Children’s Hospital, it will impact commute times and traffic near the hospital. The Burke Gilman Trail will not be affected by this work.  Reroute information and updates for bus route 75 can be found here. PBMU Fencing Installation

This Saturday, Jan. 30, fencing will be installed for the Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU) play yard and porch from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There will be some vehicle activity as trucks use the access road off NE 45th St., but overall impacts to traffic and noise will be minimal. Weekend Construction Update, Jan. 16 to Jan. 23

An update was made to this post on January 20, 2016.

Over the next few weeks, the following construction projects will occur at Seattle Children’s as we continue to improve our facilities for our patients.

  • Saturday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Fencing materials will be delivered to the access road off of NE 45th St. and installed for the Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU) play yard and porch. This work will not impact traffic in the area and noise will be minimal.
  • Saturday, Jan. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Asphalt repair work will be completed near the River zone loading dock off Penny Drive. This work will include cutting and patching asphalt, and removing dirt using a vacuum truck. These activities will generate some noise, but there should be minimal to no impact on traffic and parking.

PBMU Play Yard and Porch Update

A Second Life for Christmas Trees

You may hear a little noise on the south end of main campus Saturday, Jan. 2, but it won’t be coming from construction. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Seattle Boy Scout troops will be chipping recycled Christmas trees to provide mulch for Seattle Children’s gardens. Neighbors are welcome to bring their Christmas trees over and join in this green effort to support the Boy Scouts and Seattle Children’s. There will be trucks and flaggers present near 45th street, with little impact to traffic. Thanks for your patience and Happy Holidays!


Fencing Material Deliveries

Now through Friday, Dec. 11, small flatbed trucks will make periodic deliveries of fencing material to the access road on the south side of the Ocean building. These deliveries will occur between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday only. This work will not impact traffic in the area and noise will be very minimal. Forest Zone Construction Update: Concrete Pour Dec. 1 and Dec. 3

As an update to our post on Oct. 22 about construction of the new kitchen, additional work is scheduled to occur on Tuesday, Dec. 1 and Thursday, Dec. 3 from noon to 4:30 p.m. Depending on the contractor’s schedule, this work may occur earlier in the day from 8:05 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cement will be pumped into level one of the Forest zone to create the floor for the new kitchen. A cement pump truck and cement truck will be present off 40th Avenue NE near the Forest building. Expect significant noise while the cement is pumped. Asphalt Repair Work This Weekend

Weather permitting, repair work will be completed this Saturday, Nov. 7 at the loading dock drive aisle on the north side of the building in the Mountain zone. This work will include filling existing holes with gravel and covering with asphalt. The repairs are scheduled to take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and will generate some noise. PBMU Play Yard – Concrete Update

As an update to our post on Oct. 9 regarding the PBMU play yard and porch, intermittent concrete drilling will occur between the hours of 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The drilling will take place on the south side exterior of the building, between the River and Mountain zones, and there may be some noise due to this work. PBMU Play Yard and Porch Construction Continues

As an update to our post on Aug. 19 regarding the new Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU) play yard and porch, concrete pouring will occur from 8:25 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5. A concrete truck will be positioned on the access walkway between the Forest and River buildings. This work will result in some noise as the concrete is poured.
