From Wednesday, Aug. 8, to Friday, Sept. 14, construction crews will modify Helen Lane at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Helen Lane is the road that serves the hospital’s River entrance.
The purpose of this work is to straighten Helen Lane, which will then serve as the new hub for Seattle Children’s workforce shuttles. Portions of the existing curb along Helen Lane will be removed so the road can be straightened, then new curb will be poured. Some work will also occur around the traffic circle near the River entrance. Helen Lane and the River entrance will remain open during construction.
Normal levels of construction noise are anticipated. Work will occur between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

The upcoming Forest B expansion has a name: Building Care. You may recall that Forest A was named “Building Hope,” and our newest research building downtown is “Building Cure.” Groundbreaking for Building Care is scheduled for fall 2018, with anticipated completion in 2021. As the demand for Seattle Children’s services continues to grow, we need additional space to adequately care for our patients and families. Building Care will help us meet many of those needs. Starting Monday, Oct. 16, work will take place along the west side of the River zone at Seattle Children’s hospital campus. This is part of the prep work needed for upcoming construction of Building Care (the Forest B zone) which is scheduled to begin fall 2018.
Work will take place on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is expected to last for 10 to 15 business days. It involves saw-cutting the walkway slab and using a vacuum truck to remove dirt and debris; both activities will result in significant noise. Everything will be done to complete work as quickly and with as little disruption to patients, their families and neighbors as possible.
