Bartlett Tree Experts will remove some large trees around the perimeter of the hospital campus from Sept. 17 to Sept. 19. The work will proceed as follows:
- Monday, Sept. 17: Crews will remove two trees at the Metro route 78 bus stop and turnaround on the southeast corner of the hospital campus. The stop (number 29091) and turnaround will be closed while the trees are removed. Metro will reroute bus 78 that day along 45th Avenue NE and 46th Avenue NE to serve as a temporary turnaround. To accommodate buses, no parking will be allowed on the east side of 45th Avenue and along both sides of 46th Avenue near the intersection with NE 47th Street that day. National Barricade will place “no parking” signs on Friday, Sept. 14 with the date and time of the parking restriction.
- Tuesday, Sept. 18: Crews will remove one tree at the southwest corner of the hospital campus, near the intersection of 40th Avenue NE and NE 45th Street. Crews will also prune two trees near Sand Point Way south of Penny Drive. No traffic or parking disruptions are anticipated.
- Wednesday, Sept. 19: Crews will remove three trees on the south side of NE 47th Street between 44th Avenue NE and 45th Avenue NE. Bartlett Tree Experts will park their boom truck on NE 47th Street to access the trees. No traffic or parking disruptions are anticipated.
This work will include noise from chainsaws and chippers. The tree removal will take place each day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The strike by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 302 against the Associated General Contractors of Washington is ongoing, and as discussed in the Aug. 29 Construction Blog post, it is affecting Seattle Children’s projects. Work that does not rely on members of Local 302 has continued.
It is unclear when the strike will end, but once it does, work will immediately begin on the tasks that have been delayed. At the hospital campus, that includes completing the new Emergency Department (ED) driveway to 40th Avenue and paving the old landscape island in the existing ED driveway. As outlined in the Aug. 6 blog post, this requires temporary closure of a portion of the sidewalk along the east side of 40th Avenue. When this work finally takes place, construction noise will be generated from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. The installation of new asphalt will generate some odor as well. There will also be no parking allowed on both sides of 40th Avenue while this work occurs.
Because of the uncertainty caused by the strike, we’re providing this information to give you advance notice of these anticipated construction activities. We will post further updates as information becomes available.

On Wednesday, Sept. 5, crews will remove some vegetation from the west side of Helen Lane at the hospital. This work will be performed using a boom lift placed in the River parking lot, north of the elevator to the River entrance. Four parking stalls in the River lot will be closed to accommodate the boom lift. Moderate levels of noise will be created from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day.

Modular buildings located on Seattle Children’s hospital campus are being dismantled and removed in sections via Penny Drive from now through Aug. 20. The dismantling will take place Mondays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; dismantling work will not occur on weekends.
The physical move of modular sections down Penny Drive will take place as follows: one at 1:30 p.m. and one at 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; and multiple moves from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays. No work will occur on Sundays. Transporting modular sections down Penny Drive should not cause significant delays, but if we experience traffic congestion, the Ocean garage exit to NE 45th Street may be opened for a brief time to prevent delays to patient and family departures.

To keep the project timeline on track, weekday work hours for the Ocean 8 parking lot will be extended to 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice. On Saturday, Sept. 23 and Sunday, Sept. 24, hours are extended to 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For questions or concerns, email email@example.com.
Starting Sept. 5, resurfacing work will begin on the Ocean 8 parking lot at Seattle Children’s hospital campus. Work is expected to take about eight weeks, weather permitting, and will occur seven days a week: Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
There will be intermittent noise from compressors, and from equipment used to remove metal structures and the existing top coating of the surface lot; there may be some odor during application of the new top coating and parking lot striping as well. To improve safety, and as part of Seattle Children’s Major Institution Master Plan (MIMP), construction will begin on a new path connecting Seattle Children’s campus to 44th Ave. NE. It will take about four weeks to complete. During construction there will be some trucks parked nearby, for the shortest time possible to perform necessary work; construction will only take place between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. As much as possible, parking and construction will take place on Seattle Children’s property. The existing path will remain until the new one is constructed.
