Children leave a lot behind when they come to the hospital – school, friends and activities. Time drags and they feel bored and isolated. They and their families also have lots of questions about what to expect during their stay. GetWell Town is an interactive media system that uses the bedside TV to inform, educate and entertain patients and their families at the hospital. And it’s coming to Building Hope when the doors open this spring.

Content on GetWell Town helps pass time by giving patients and families access to the Internet, e-mail, and the ability to create their own website to update their friends on their progress. Plus, they can use the system to obtain information about the hospital such as visiting hours and special activities.

GetWell Town also provides dozens of patient education programs through an exclusive partnership with KidsHealth. Topics range from asthma and diabetes to tests and procedures. Last but not least, the system keeps patients and families entertained with music, movies and games. Password-protected controls give parents final say on what their children can see and do.
